This tour will give you the opportunity to visit the early middle age of Tuscany.
The journey from Florence to Siena includes 1 hour of driving through typical Tuscany landscape. Situated across 3 hills, Siena is one of the most characteristically Gothic cities in Italy and is famous as the city of the Palio, a medieval horse race. We will make our way through the labyrinth of narrow streets in Siena and focus our attention on the shell-shaped 'Campo's square', surrounded by medieval buildings and Palazzo Pubblico, the Siena city hall; than visit the Cathedral on the city's highest hill.

From Siena we will take a 45 min scenic drive to the town of San Gimignano.
Also resting on a hilltop (324 meters), it was originally an Etruscan town and it characterized by 14 of the 72 original house towers from which the town gets its name 'City of Beautifull Towers'. San Gimignano also offers a visit at Sant' Agostino church with Benozzo Gozzoli frescos, and enchanting Duomo, and the well known Cisterna square.
You will have free time here in San Gimignano to be tempted by the local artisan shops offering handmade linen, pottery, olive oil and white wine of the area : Vernaccia
From San Gimignano, we take a lovely drive back through the Tuscan country side entering into Florence through the Romana. |
